Barrier-Free Travel

General Information

Sick and disabled people often require special assistance. Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium provides to these passengers individual needs as much as possible. To help us provide the best-possible service, we will need the following information as soon as available:

  • name of the sick or disabled passenger
  • name of the attendant
  • nature and extent of the disability
  • mobility (can the passenger walk/climb stairs without assistance?)
  • does the passenger need medical or assistive devices during the flight?

We need this information at least 7 days to 14 days before the flight.

Please make your special reservations as early as possible. Contact your travel agent or, for bookings made with Thomas Cook Airlines (booking partner: Thomas Cook Airlines), contact our contact center.

You can find more information about the rights of sick and disabled passengers on the European Commission's official website.

Transportation Restrictions

Please understand that we are unable to offer transportation in the following cases:

  • to anyone suffering from an contagious/infectious disease (e.g., open TBC, infectious hepatitis, chickenpox etc.);
  • to anyone who require a pneumatically operated device during the flight;
  • to anyone who require an electrically operated device together with oxygen supply during the flight;
  • unaccompanied psychotic patients;
  • stretcher passengers;
  • passengers in coma;
  • passengers with a plaster cast not older than 4 days except if the plaster cast has been cut.

For safety reasons, we can only accept a limited number of visually or mobility-impaired persons on a flight. The actual number depends on the aircraft type. We ask that visually or mobility-impaired persons who wish to travel make their special reservations as early as possible.

Medical clearance

Following passengers can only be accepted with a medical clearance:

  • anyone with a fresh cardiac infarct, stroke, embolism or similar;
  • anyone who depends on the use of any kind of device or medical treatment (e.g. injections, infusions, oxygen);
  • anyone with internal injuries, quadriplegics, hemiplegics, injured brain or skull, large area external injuries (e.g. wounds, burns);
  • anyone with spasmodic paralysis with cerebral damage;
  • mentally handicapped passengers travelling unaccompanied;
  • psychotic patients (must be accompanied by a doctor, preferably a psychiatrist);
  • passengers with a contagious disease provided that danger of infection has passed (must be stated in medical certificate);
  • expectant mothers from the end of the 28th week of pregnancy.

Additional Oxygen Supply in Flight

Passengers on Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium flights needing extra oxygen during their flight, can make an oxygen request and need to indicate the quantity of oxygen needed continuatively/discontinuously. To make your oxygen request, please contact your travel agent or, for bookings made with Thomas Cook Airlines (booking partner: Thomas Cook Airlines), contact our contact center.

Please note that the use of passengers’ private oxygen equipment during the flight is not allowed.

Wheelchair Transportation

Due to limited cabin space, passenger-owned wheelchairs may only be transported as checked baggage. However, they do not count against the passenger's baggage allowance. If the wheelchair physically cannot be loaded, we will have to refuse to transport it. If you require the use of a wheelchair, please make sure to note our check-in deadlines. Pre-boarding is offered at most airports.

We will transport electric wheelchairs powered by a dry battery if, and only if:

  • • The battery is disconnected;
  • • The battery is securely attached to the wheelchair;
  • • The battery terminals are insulated to prevent short circuits.

For safety reasons, we do not transport electric wheelchairs with spillable/wet cell batteries.

If you want to ask us about transporting your electric wheelchair, please make sure to provide us with the size and weight of the wheelchair.

Please note:
If Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium Medical Service does not feel that an attendant is required, only a limited number of passengers with special disabilities may be transported without a qualified attendant on each flight.

Stretcher transportation

Is not possible on Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium flights.

Designated seats

We have designated seats for passengers with mobility problems, furthermore the seating should always be as not to impede rapid evacuation of the aircraft, or impede the crew with their duties.

Please note that the following seats cannot be assigned to sick or disabled passengers:

  • emergency exit rows;
  • the row in front of or behind an emergency exit row;
  • the first or the last row.

Service Animals

For security and capacity reasons, we can only accept dogs with a confirmed reservation. Service animals are transported free of charge, even if the dog weighs more than 6kg. During the flight a muzzle must be available and has to be attached to the dog when deemed necessary by the crew.

An animal passport is mandatory according to EU guidelines.
